Turkmenistan President Qurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has met the Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industries Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi, the Turkmen embassy said in a statement on Thursday.

The Afghan Minister conveyed greetings of the Afghan President Hamid Karzai to Turkmen President, and congratulated the oncoming New Year, it said.

Mr Berdimuhamedov wished the Afghan people "new impressive progress towards lasting peace and stability that are the key to revival of Afghanistan".

He said that Turkmenistan intends to continue to support international community's efforts to ensure the safe life of the Afghan people, using only political, diplomatic, trade, economic and humanitarian approach.

Mr Ahadi has expressed deep appreciation for Turkmenistan's assistance, as well as for new approaches reflected in the Turkmen leader's international initiatives at the last meeting of the UN General Assembly about solving the Afghan problem.

The Turkmen leader and Afghan Minister in the meeting reiterated their countries' commitment to the traditional friendly relations.

Among the priorities of bilateral partnership, the two sides discussed economic cooperation, electric-power industry, development of transportation infrastructure and cultural and humanitarian ties.

Cooperation in fuel-energy complex, specifically the practical implementation of the project for construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline was also discussed by the two sides.
