Italy has agreed to provide support for the renovation and standardisation of western Herat province, Afghan government said in a statement.

Based on the agreement, the Afghan government will receive 240 million dollars of long-term loan from Italy to implement the project.
According to a press release issued by the Afghan President's Office, the issue of renovation and expansion of Herat airport is to be discussed in the coming meeting of the Council of Ministers.
Meanwhile, the statement says that apart from renovation and expansion of the project, Italy will also support construction of a new terminal for Herat airport.
Herat airport is one of the important airports in the country after Kabul and northern Mazar-e-Sharif.
